Conference Events

There are many practical reasons to attend the HOW Conference, including real-world information you can immediately implement, expert advice from speakers who’ve been in your shoes and the newest resources from a variety of vendors.

But you’ll get a lot out of the creative, jazzed-up atmosphere, community vibe and intense feeling of camaraderie, too.

That’s why we build a host of “extras” into the Conference program—they give you the chance to partake in the workshops, tours and roundtables that suit your needs and your personality. Note that some extras, like studio tours and workshops, require an additional fee.

Keep reading for details, then sign up for the HOW Conference email newsletter for the scoop on program additions and new opportunities.

Russell Brown @ HOW

Join Adobe’s own Russell Brown for an amazing two-day, hands-on course where you’ll learn advanced imaging tips and techniques using the brand-new Adobe® Photoshop® CS5. In this workshop, subtitled “Virtual Photoshop Worlds,” you’ll start with the basics to create your very own painted mask. This class will introduce you to a new set of painting and imaging techniques and give you skills that you can immediately apply to your next design or photography project. You’ll follow the project through to completion—including printing, laser cutting and hand assembly—and your finished mask will be displayed in the Resource Center for everyone to see!

If learning about all the great features in Adobe Photoshop CS5 sounds interesting, then this is the class for you! Get going with Adobe Senior Creative Director Russell Brown and the distinguished members of his team, which includes some of the best designers and instructors in the industry. To participate, you’ll need to bring your own Mac or PC—you'll even get a free trial version of Photoshop CS5 prior to arriving at the workshop so you can start exploring all the new features right away!

Breakfast Roundtables

8:30 am - 9:30 am
Start—or join—a conversation on an important subject over breakfast. If there’s a topic you’re interested in, you can start up your own table (we’ll help you create tabletop signs so others can identify you). Or label your table by city/state to meet other designers in your region.

During the Conference

The UnConference Room

Throughout the HOW Conference, we’re dedicating an entire conference room to you. Got an interesting topic you want to talk about? Schedule your topic on the whiteboard outside the room; anyone who’s interested can stop by for your session. Be sure to check out other attendees’ topics, too—you never know what you might discover.

Speaker's Office Hours

Just like your college professors, many of the speakers will be available for office hours where you can ask questions and get more information. Look for a complete schedule soon.

AIGA Lounge

Meet local members of the professional association for design and participate in special HOW versions of trademark AIGA Colorado events. Get your hands dirty with “Craftwork” do-it-yourself projects, join the conversation during “Buzz” roundtable discussions with local and national industry luminaries, and contribute your creative flair to a skateboard deck to be auctioned at the annual “Bordo Bello” fundraiser later this year. Space is limited, so visit the AIGA Lounge early to sign up!

After the Conference

DesignCasts

Keep that HOW Conference feeling going all year with the HOW DesignCast package. This series of five webcasts will feature expert information on the topics that matter most to you as a designer. After the Conference, you can choose your five DesignCasts from either on-demand or upcoming HOW DesignCasts. Each webcast will last an hour, and they’ll be archived for a full year so you can access the recording whenever you need a refresher. Sign up when your register for the Conference.

HOW Conference MP3s

Get MP3s of all available HOW Conference sessions—perfect for catching up on the sessions you missed or for brushing up on the new techniques you learned. They’re also a great way to share all your HOW Conference info with your colleagues. The complete MP3 set will be available within 30 days after the Conference. To purchase the MP3s, simply add them to your HOW Conference registration.
